Planning

Discussion can be used to improve students' comprehension skills

Reluctant readers can become more interested in reading and be influenced to select more challenging texts, if the planning is well constructed.

Engage students in texts they are not yet able to read independently.

Discuss writing techniques, text features, and elements of a story.

Must be purposeful

Selecting a text

Select texts that are above student reading level to expose them to richer vocabulary.

The teacher should consider the age, interests, and needs of students when selecting texts.

Students should see themselves reflected in the resources

Offer variety to students.

What is it?

Students become aware of the new strategy by listening attentively.

The teacher is responsible for reading the text and students are expected to listen attentively.

When reading a new text, the teacher use modelled reading to introduce a new strategy.
