Learning objectives

Psychomotor: As in the novel, students will illustrate (through drawing or a computer program) their journal entry in a way that also matches the intended tone

Affective: Students will write their own diary entry about a personal experience and express tone through word choices and literary devices

Cognitive: After reading a short selection from True Diary, the students will pick out literary devices and word choices that establish tone

Goals

The student will realize the connection between authorial choices and reader response

The student will utilize literary devices and descriptive vocabularyto establish tone in story-telling

The student will recognize the tone of a particular piece of literature
