Plan Cell

The plant cell is composed of various organelles, each playing a crucial role in its function and maintenance. The cell wall provides structural support and protection, surrounding the cell membrane which is selectively permeable and involved in numerous cellular processes.

Cytoplasm

Chloroplasts

> Conduct photosynthesis
> Contain chloropyll that capture energy from sunlight
> Stores energy in ATP

Golgi Apparatus

> "golgi complex" or "golgi body"
> modifies, sorts, and packs macromolecules
> primarily proteins
> "post office" of the cell

Cell Membrane

> "plasma membrane" or "cytoplasmic membrane"
> Selectively permeable
> Protection
> Involved in a variety of cellular processes

Cell Wall

> Tough, flexible and sometimes fairly rigid
> Completely surrounds cell and cell membrane
> Protection
> Structural Support
> Filtering mechanism

Nucleus

> Membrane-bound organelle
> Contains most genetic material
> "Control Center"
> First organelle to be discovered!

Ribisomes

rough ER (endoplasmic reticulum)

smooth ER (no ribisomes)
