Immigration: Reasons why Immigrants came to America
Students will read or listen the oral history of immigrants on the Ellis Island website
Students will then interview one immigrant they know. It can be a family, neighbor, or anyone they know. They will then find connections between reasons as to why immigrants came to America in the late 19th century to early 20th century as well as why immigrants came to America in the mid to late 20th century or 21st century.

ACTIVITY #3
Students will reflect on these works and identify key aspects of the propaganda poster or video. For example, how did they refer to the communists? How did they portray communism and what are key symbols that are connected (ex. color red) to communism.
In order to understand how America attempted to stop the spread of communism domestically, students will examine different American anti-communism posters or videos from the Cold War era.
ACTIVITY #1
By completing this activity students will learn and recognize that there was not just one movement between the years of 1960-1970, rather there were many different movements that were occurring during America at this time period.
If a student selects the Chicano Movement, the Anti-Vietnam Movement, and the African-American Civil Rights movement, they will have to list the similarities and differences between these movements, (what they are protesting for and the way they went about protesting).
They will then choose three movements, and create a Venn Diagram identifying how the three chosen movements were similar or different.
In this Activity students will be given a list of movements that rose during the Civil Rights Era.
