superficial success over personal growth
and achievement

vs
"Does technology break apart communities"
Situational irony

What is your purpose for speaking?
To help students recognize the severity of loneliness
and how it will affect them in the future.
To improve community moral in Meadowvale Secondary students
To analyze one of the biggest
social hurdle that our generation
will experience
Behaviours that we experience today
and how they will translate into our
future (such as in work, love life, or
future friend groups)
As well as discuss proactive methods
of solving this issue from Meadowvale's community
Discussion of "fluff" solutions are often answers
that sound morally appealing, but are not practical
and therefore often not put into "proper" practice
i.e. Think of genuine ways to
help those around us while achieving what we want
Ethos: Why are you a credible speaker for this topic?
Being one more grade away from graduation
we feel the pressure to succeed and take on
the all men for themselves mentality
Reduces amount of close friends we have
as well as the sense of community
This results in absolving of social circles
as there may be less time and trust
There is significantly more pressure on this
generation to be independent and to achieve
the "American Dream" While resources are near impossible
The price tag for the "dream" is significantly different from before. However, the achievement expectation is still the same
University tuition prices are
practically affordable
Global warming and resource shortages
are expected to be dealt with by our generation
Housing prices/market is significantly high
We experience social preassure on a day to day basis
You are presenting a problem, what is the solution
Technology is not necessarily the problem
but rather how we use it
In many examples, we can see that technology
helps improve existing bonds. But will make it harder
to enter new social circles.
Make social events for the elderly more accessible
The elderly may be isolated by generation gaps
in their household. By making social events geared towards
the elderly and providing services for them to attend
independently would allow them to interact with their generation
Create more INCENTIVES for youth to be more social
Create rewarding situations that encourage
the behavior of socializing
A poor example of creating reward is attention
from inciting drama/gossiping
Kids with social anxiety may feel less inclined to share
if they were forced to, as they feel embarrassment.
By making youth more engaged, we are more likely
to get a productive reaction.
This could include small "prizes" such as candy, or events that
could serve as conversation topic
"Socializing" Activities that teachers and youth mentors
try to do aren't very effective.
Create a society that values
social connects over individual success
Japenese Moai groups in Okinawa
Support group that comes together to support in social, financial and health needs.
How will you foster a sense of involvement/community with the audience
Kahoot game/survey
Seeing how aware
the audience is to the problem
Comparing actual scale of
problem to what audience perceives it to be
i.e. start presentation off with a kahoot quiz
to let people compare their understanding of
the growing problem of individualism to the actual
number
Tell stories to captivate their attention
Survey Questions
"Raise your hand if you feel
as if you have no close friends"
Logos: Statistics and numbers to back up your point

By tying in the same examples from different countries
we can show our audience that this problem is world wide
