Evaluation: making judgements about students demonstrated knowledge and skills. Occurs once the practicing and coaching throughout the learning journey is over.

Reporting: informing parents of student learning/achievement based on evaluations made using formative and summative assesments throughout the learning journey.

Assessment: gathering data about student knowledge/skills using a variety of methods

Assessment as Learning: focuses on the role of the student as the connector between assessment and learning.
Summative Assessment: assessments that occur at the end of a period of learning and summarizes student achievement of learning. This can be considered the third and last phase of assessment on the learning journey.
Assessment of Learning (formative): designed to determine student achievement.
Formative Assessment: gathering data during the the learning process and provides feedback to student and teacher on improving learning. This can be considered the second (and ongoing) phase of assessment on the learning journey.

Formative and Summative Assessment data are used to make judgements about the knowledge and skills demonstrated during a learning cycle.

Diagnostic Assessment: collecting data to determine starting points for instruction. This can be considered the first phase of assessment on the learning journey.
