Questions

what were the environmental impacts?
the entire downtown section of Lac-Mégantic was prohibited to access until June 2014. the soil would take up to five yeas to decontaminate, and some of the houses would also take that long forcing them to move somewhere else.
How could we have prevented it from happening, and let it not happen again?
It could have been prevented by not having left the train unattended. If someone was on the train all night then he/she would have been able to pull the manual brake when it started to roll.
Why was the train left unattended?
They left the train unattended because after the firemen put out the fire on the train, the train was shut down for the night. they then left it thinking it would be safe.
How did it/what happened?
There was a fire on the oil train that firemen came to put out. when the fire was put out the left it thinking it was all fine because the train had been shut down. with the train being shut down it caused the air brakes to fail and start rolling down the hill straight into the town of Lac-Mégantic where it derailed and exploded. The explosion took dozens of lives and destroyed the town making it unsafe to live in.
