In 2017, Texas passed a law allowing concealed carry of firearms on certain college campuses. The legislation, spearheaded by Sen. Brian Birdwell and signed by Gov. Abbott, aims to uphold Second Amendment rights while addressing safety concerns.

Texas Campus Carry

Goals

Appease only a small percentage of students and Texans
Lower rape/assault stats
Lower gun violence on campuses
Self-Defense from violence
Protection from mass shootings
Constitutional Right

If you have a Texas handgun license, you are eligible to carry your weapon on campus.

Restrictions
History of certain mental illness
Certain high-misdemeanors
People with felony charges
Convicted felons
You must pass a classroom and gun range training course
Must be 21+ (or 18 if member is in military)

Community Colleges and some Private Colleges
A number of Private colleges already allow Campus Carry
Allowed in Campus Buildings, classrooms and dorms
Colleges may set up own rules for carry locations.
