In authoritarian regimes, the consolidation of power revolves around strategic succession planning and maintaining elite cohesion. Effective leadership in these regimes hinges on minimizing intra-elite competition by sharing benefits among elite actors to ensure their continued support.

Maintain the authoritarian Status Quo

Top leader must transfer his personalistic political authority to a legitimizing entity, such as the party or a family.
