Models and Relationships

In mathematics, a Cartesian plane is used to visually represent coordinates, with the plane divided into four quadrants numbered counter-clockwise. Positive and negative coordinates are identified within these quadrants.

Models and Relationships

Slope

Describes the direction and the steepness of the line.
The line is constant. Its always linear.

X and Y axis

X axis is sideways (horizontal line) Y axis is up (vertical line)
X is always first when naming a coordinate. (x,y)

Independent and Dependent Variables

Y axis is dependent on X axis because its independent.
Used to graph linear equations

Ratios

A ratio compares values. It says how much of one thing there is compared to another thing.

Quadrants on a cartesian plane

The quadrant numbers goes counter clockwise
They identify positive or negative coordinates on the plane.

Formulas

y = mx + b
Tables of values

these are used to record data and then analyze them to find a pattern to be able to make predictions

m = rise/run
y2 - y1 _____ x2 - x1

Left side coordinate is always the first (x1,y1) then, (x2,y2) on the next coordinate

Used to find the equation of a line in a graph
