The primary goal of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is to carry out the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act), which Congress originally passed in 1970. The OSH Act has been the subject of various amendments and revisions since its beginning, but it is still in force “to ensure, as far as possible, to all workers in the Nation safe and healthy working conditions to preserve our human resources. All employees are required to help prevent exposure to safety and health hazards in the workplace by familiarizing themselves with and complying with all applicable OSHA requirements.
In 2013, 4,585 employees died from occupational incidents, and there was a staggering 3 million registered cases of workplace injuries and illnesses.
