Los anestésicos locales, como la lidocaína y sus variantes combinadas con epinefrina, se utilizan comúnmente para bloquear el dolor en procedimientos médicos. Estos anestésicos actúan directamente sobre la zona lesionada y son eficaces en cirugías superficiales, partos normales y episiotomías, entre otros.
