THE FIVE PILARS OF MUSLIM RELIGION

Central to the practice of Islam are five fundamental acts known as the Five Pillars. These pillars encompass the core beliefs and practices that every Muslim adheres to. The first pillar, Shahadah, is the declaration of faith, affirming the oneness of God and Muhammad as His prophet.

5º-Hajj -Pilgrimage

The pilgrims perform a number of rites recalling the life of the prophet.
Pilgrims should wear simple clothes so as not to stand out because they are all alike to Allah.
The pilgrimage is to visit the Kaaba, in Mecca.
It is performed in the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.
It is mandatory for adults with economic means.
At least once in their life.

1º-Shahadah-Profesion of Faith

One god-Allah.
Muhammad is prophet.

4º-Zakat -Almsgiving

By charity the possessions they have are purified.
The zakat is given to the poor.
Zakat shows that all are equal before Allah.
It is 2.5% of the income.
It is obligatory to all who are able to do so.
It is the practice of charitable giving by muslims based on accumulated wealth.

3º-Sawm -Fasting

Eid al-Fitr is the party that ends Ramadan.
Sawm helps Muslims develop self-control, gain a better understanding of God's gifts and greater compassion towards the deprived.
Sawm involves abstaining from:
Sex.
Smoking.
Drink.
Food.
Fasting lasts from sunrise to sunset.
Fasting in the Ramadan is mandatory except for:
Sick people.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Children.
Who do heavy work.
Fasting takes place during Ramadan.

2º-Salat-Prayer

Must wash themselves before praying
Facing Mecca
Prayer five times
Isha`a is the evening prayer
Maghrib is the sunset prayer
Asr is performer in the afternoon
Dhuhr is a noon prayer
Farj is performed at down
