storytelling is something that I find very beautiful because there is so much that can represented by stories.
Stories can be true or symbolic and some teach lessons. Some stories are passed down through generations, teaching important life lessons that the past generations have come to find out.
stories have so much power when it comes to conveying emotions, whether that's sadness, happiness, fear, or existence.
sharing circles as I have heard are a tradition in Indigenous culture for members to share their thoughts and stories. It is both like the sharing circle I did not too long ago in English class and the movie Grizzlies in the scene that they all sat in a circle, sharing stories of their friend who had recently died.
what's beautiful about it is that stories can bring people together. everyone's stories should be heard and I do especially love how sharing circles respect everybody's thoughts and individual circles.
these stores come to hold a special place in many people in Indigenous communities that inspires them to express their voices through their art. This could be seen in the Turtle Island art piece made by Patrick Hunter who was inspired by hearing stories about Turtle Island growing up.
Lessons from Oral stories passed down through generations teach about the culture, the land, and social orders, all of which help communities to be made with people expressing their experience and knowledge through stories and create strong bonds.
They are told both as entertainment and also as educational. With each generation passing these through to the next.
Creation stories are tales about how the world came to be and they are different for everyone. stories such as the Turtle Island, Sedna, and many more. Creation stories are passed down from generation and they form how we humans view the world which is what makes them beautiful and meaningful to different people.
teaching lessons are common themes of Indigenous oral stories as they teach lessons about the importance of land. Many lessons are passed down by the older generations through the years to teach the upcoming generations their experience and ways of life.
oral storytelling in Indigenous culture holds an important place in Indigenous culture when it comes to passing down lessons from the past through generations.
Oral storytelling respects everyone's story and their experiences which makes a very beautiful bonding experience for all involved. sharing circles as an example are great ways to make bonds, share stories, and for everyone to get to know one another while hearing each other's stories.
Orak storytelling brings families together and spends time and creates strong familial bonds which is why it is very valued in Indigenous culture.

what I find about beauty is how it connects to identity. Traditional attires play a big role in the expression of culture and identity in my opinion. learning about traditional clothing from different cultures has always been interesting to me. learning about why certain clothes are made the way they are made, their uses, and what they represent in the culture of the people. I had read an article about Indigenous fashion designers incorporating traditional Indigenous designs into modern clothes which I thought was a very beautiful and brilliant idea as it beautifully represented the beauty of Indigenous clothing, all while having a modern and creative twist on them
Symbolism in fashion is evident like it is in art. Fashion designers who incorporate Indigenous symbolism into their designs such as Yolanda OldDwarf. She used flower symbolisms on her dresses to symbolize different things such as gratitude or patience.
Inspiration in fashion can come from many things, including the actual experiences of the artist. Yolanda OldDwarf, who is a fashion designer incorporated flowers such as Orchid cacti in her designs because of her tribal tradition being riding horses, therefore the patient. taking her own experiences and what things meant to her and incorporating that into fashion was not only beautiful visually, but also had a beautiful connection and meaning.
expression through fashion is a very important factor in the expression of identity. for many residential school survivors, having their traditional attiers taken away was taking away a part of their identity. fashion holds a deep connection to home, community, and family. The beauty of fashion lies within one's expression of the person they are.
In the CBC news article where the fashion designer, Chelsiea's Cree-ations was making Indigenouse-inspired clothing, she made various types of outfits such as wedding dresses and graduation dresses. Connecting with their identity is through the clothes she had designed helped those who wanted to celebrate happy moments of their lives in attires that connected them with their Indigenous identity which is what makes her work beautiful.
Indigenous attires made by the generations before are a reflection of the culture they made and the product of their hard work. It holds deep meaning for Indigenous people and is a representation of their culture that has been passed down through generations.
Many fashion shows feature indigenous-made clothing. One of these was the Indigenous fashion show at the Eaton Centre in Toronto, Ontario which brought many fashion designers from around Canada to showcase their designs. Having Fashion shows by Indigenous fashion designers helps bring the representation into the fashion world.

In grade 10 last year, in art class, we looked at some Indigenous art pieces to inspire us to make our art.
There was this one specific that was in front of our classroom and it was a drawing of an Indigenous woman.
I loved that drawing the most, because not only was it drawn beautifully, but it was very expressive. In a way that only by looking at it, you could feel just how powerful it was.
There are many art pieces like that, especially ones made by Indigenous artists. Art can also tell stories or inspire people. There have been many instances where seeing other people's art has inspired me to make my own art.
Art is a very expressive and powerful tool and many Indigenous artists use it to shed light on current matters such as the MMIWG crisis. by using their art to shed light on the matter, they raise awareness and help the women who have been victims of violence come forward with their stories. art is a great tool in advocating for social justice and for individuals to express their truth or experience.
Many artists use art as a way to raise awareness about the MMIWG crisis and by using art, they can represent the matter visually. Art is a powerful tool and empowering and beautiful to see artists use this skill to raise awareness on such an important crisis happening in our country.
Many Indigenous art focuses on storytelling and knowledge that Indigenous people have of the land throughout generations. the use of symbolism is used a lot to interpret stories better. an example of symbolism in Indigenous art is the four colors, black, white, yellow, and red which are the four directions and seasons.
Many art galleries around parts of Canada are opened to display art by indigenous artists and showcase their beauty. Indigenouse art is shared among many through these art galleries and displays the beautiful authentic art by Indigenouse artists.

Music to me is a very expressive form of art.
different music can remind me of different things and every type of music holds a specific aesthetic to it. it can also correlate with memories. listening to a certain song from a specific time in my life brings me back memories of my life in that specific time and reminds me of a certain memory that relates to it.
I was in grade nine when our gym teacher for Orange Shirt Day put up a live show about an Indigenous woman who was a residential school survivor explaining her experience. at some point in the live, they played traditional Indigenous music. At the time, I did not think much of the music and just enjoyed along with it, but some time later when I heard it again, it reminded me of that period when I first heard it.
This is what I find beautiful about music, it captures memories of the times you listened to it even when you don't realize it.
some of these songs and music are passed down through communication through generations which again points out the beauty of something being passed down through generations and staying alive
Indigenous music consists of various styles and genres, all with their meaning and symbolism that carries from Nation to Nation. change in style or practice of songs can be different depending on what the song represents and stands for which is part of its beauty.
Music is a beautiful and expressive form of art that holds deep and true meaning to those who make it. It is both a too of celebration for happy moments and a form of expression.
music plays a big role in connecting people to their cultural identity. In certain points of history such as the Indian Act, music was taken away from Indigenous people as it was an essential tool of their cultural identity. reconnecting with Indigenous music is like reconnecting with identity for many people with Indigenous heritage.
Authentic Indigenous music tells Indigenous stories in authentic ways so it is important for Indigenous artists to be represented in the music industry so that they capture the beauty of it authentically and its truth.
Music holds a special place in Indigenous culture and various genres. Different music is used in multiple ceremonies or spiritual celebrations.
Many of the music in Powwows are songs of honor and healing songs that are requested. Music instruments used in Powwos are mostly drums and the voices of the singers. the songs are danced to by the dancers. These dances, music, and celebrations are to honor the Indigenous culture.
Music is used in many ceremonies as it is the embodiment of the Indigenous culture and the beauty of it being passed down through generations.
