Important People in WWI

During World War I, several notable figures played crucial roles across different domains. Wop May, a novice pilot, was pursued by the famous German ace Manfred von Richtofen, known as the Red Baron, who gained fame for his aerial combat prowess before being shot down in 1918.

Wilfrid Laurier

Wilfrid was Prime Minister from 1896-1911, he was also a lawyer, journalist and politician. He was the leader of the Liberal Party from 1887-1919. He was a Dominant political figure during his era.

Gavrilo Princip

Gavrilo is a Yugoslav who was one of the three men sent by the chief of the secret Black Hand society in Serbia that he joined to assassinate Franz Ferdinand the Archduke.

Wop May

Wop was a Novice Pilot on the Western Front being pursued by Manfred von Richtofen, when the German ace was shot down and Manfred was killing in April of 1918.

William Barker

He served with a machine gun crew in the Ypres salient of Belgium. He also moved round a lot doing different things during the war.
William was a VC, fighter pilot, war hero and businessman. He also was the most highly decorated military serviceman in Canadian history.

Julian Byng

In May 1916 he was appointed to command the Canadian Corps. Byng also directed the attack on Vimy Ridge in April 1917 and then was promoted to command the British 3rd Army.

Billy was Canada's top flying ace of World War I and was credited with a total of 72 victories. He was also an Author and more.

In 1914 he became the Commander of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade.
Arthur was a soldier as well as an educator. He was the first Canadian commander of the Canadian Corps during World War I, he led them to many victories.

Sam Hughes

He got fired from the Cabinet because of his disagreements with the Prime Minister as well as his opinion, etc.
Samuel is a teacher, journalist, soldier and politician. He was the Minister of Militia and Defense between 1911-1916.

Kaiser Wilhelm II

He operated as commander in chief of the German Armed Forces during WWI
Kaiser was the Emperor of Germany in 1888. Kaiser and his chancellor encouraged Austria-Hungary to get revenge on Serbia.

Harry Miner

He was awarded the Victoria Cross
Harry enlisted in the 142nd Infantry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force and got transferred to the 58th Infantry Battalion.

Manfred von Richtofen

Mandfed was well known as the Red Baron.
Manfred started the war as a German Calvary Officer on the Eastern Front. He earned his widespread fame from being a WWI ace fighter pilot.

John McCrae

He was also a surgeon during the Second Battle of Ypres, in Belgium which was the first battle in which poison gas was used as a weapon.
John was a solider during WWI, a Canadian poet and a physician. He wrote the poem "In Flanders Fields" which was one of the most popular poems of WWI.

Lord Kitchener

When WWI broke out he reluctantly accepted the appointment of Secretary for War. Unlike others her foresaw war lasting for many years so he planned accordingly.
Lord Kitchener was a senior British Army Officer as well as a Colonial Administrator that won fame for his imperial campaigns.
