Organigram

When creating a timeline for a novel, it's beneficial to record events that stand out as significant to the storyline. Initially, it's acceptable to have an extensive list, but ultimately this should be refined to no more than ten key events.

Organigram

Novel Timeline- replace this with the title of your book

As you are reading, you may wish to record the events that you think are the main events of your novel. It's okay to have a list of too many events, you can always eliminate them. In the end, you should not have more than 10 events on this timeline.

For each event on the timeline, write a very brief description (e.g. "Parents Die", "Sally moves to new school", "Harvey runs away" etc.). Then write a brief description of the event and why you think this event is so important to the book (for example, it may lead to another major event, maybe this event changes the whole plot, maybe this event is the cause of all the problems for the main character, etc.).
