ACTION PLAN

Effective study strategies involve a combination of organization, consistent practice, and maintaining health. Creating an action plan that includes reviewing homework questions, practicing with cue cards, and taking practice tests can enhance understanding without the need for rote memorization.

HEALTH

Try not to spend too much time on the screen.
Baths always help in a pinch. You always get the best thoughts in the shower anyway!
Don't feel ashamed when asking for an extension.
Work on staying calm. There's nothing to worry about.
Prioritize sleep and food over work.
Remember: My work is less difficult than it looks!
Avoid distractions
Work at a time when I know I won't be contacted.
No phone, and don't try opening up other tabs while doing schoolwork.
Music: Listening to songs I already know instead of new songs helps. Noisy/Vocal music helps block out the family :)

ASSIGNMENTS

Quality over quantity.
Whenever I'm stuck, move onto the next part.
No slang/ contractions
Use a checklist to keep track
Avoid wordy sentences that don't add to the text.
Brainstorm (on paper) before starting anything.
Don't worry about limits, run-on sentences, and repetition. Fix them after editing.
No rushing/procrastinating. Set "deadlines" for portions of work.
Write rough drafts by hand.
Work in multiple sittings. If I do it all at once, I'll burn out.
Always proofread. Let others read, too.
Read in someone else's voice (in your head). There are things that I sometimes slip, but if I imagine it in my teacher's voice, I will notice them.

"If my teacher won't read it to the class, then I won't write it"

Remember to read out loud.
Read the rubric and focus on Level 4

PRACTICE

Helping others helps you.
Prioritize according to deadlines, difficulty, and requirements.
Keep a thesaurus and dictionary handy.
When citing sources, check for their validity.
Take notes by hand
Analyze exemplars to see understand key concepts better.
Participate in class.
Ask for help when needed.
Review.
Tests and quizzes
Feedback
Homework
Organize work by topic and date.
Colour-code study notes for comprehension.
Grammar Monster for grammar.

TESTS

Review homework questions to help.
Cue cards!
Don't memorize (when appropriate). Put into own words to understand.
"Practice" Tests/quizzes to study for the real thing.
