Causes of WW1

The period leading up to World War I was marked by intense industrialization and the rise of powerful nations like Britain, France, and Germany. France harbored resentment towards Germany over lost territories, while Germany and Britain were in an arms race, expanding their armies and navies.

Russia was defeated by Japan, which obviously made the country very mad.

France wanted revenge over their lost land (Alsace & Loraine) from Germany. People wanted to protect their country from the strong empires

Russia and Serbia were bffs : Serbia was mad at Austria-Hungary

Germany wanted to prove that they were strong (German Nationalism)

Germany became a new country. They were proud of it too. They needed power for growth of their nation. They now wanted to expand and become powerful

Britain's Dream: To become one huge empire and rule the world

Strong Nationality in Italy. Italy wanted territory from Austria-Hungary. They later joined the Triple Entente in the war

Britain had been increasing their naval troops and Germany was increasing their troops on the land and sea.

Industrialization gave countries the ability to grow their troops in numbers and weapons. Also, to replenish their troops in less time.

Many countries were becoming very strong due to Industrialization : they could protect their country from other large empires

Austria-Hungary wanted to capture other colonies to build an empire, as their empire was declining and falling apart

Great Britain had the most colonies around the world and wanted to maintain their biggest empire

Serbia was growing its empire by capturing southern countries. Serbia wanted to capture Bosnia and make itself a big country.

People had to pay lots of taxes in Germany and Britain, for weapons and troops

Germany and Great Britain were making their armies larger and larger, so they could go on war
