HB2

House Bill 2 (HB2) has significantly impacted abortion clinics, leading to the closure of many due to lack of support from local hospitals and the requirement for clinics to operate as ambulatory surgical centers (

HB2

HB2 and Abortion Clinics

The HB2 indirectly led to the closing of many abortion clinics because these clinics did not receive support from local hospitals

Consequences due to the HB2

10,000 fewer procedures in the year of 2014
Lower abortion rates
May cause many women to get abortions illegally, and unsafely.

The NARAL has taken into account that the harder it is for a woman to get an abortion, the more likely they might be willing to do it illegally and therefore possibly unsafe for their health

Many clinics have been closed down due to not receiving admittance from local hospitals, and/or being (ASCs)
Many women discouraged from receiving an abortion

Difficult procedures mean more women are less likely to have an abortion.

Long drives and several visits makes it harder for them

Organization: NARAL and "pro-choice"

Aim to give information on many contreceptions to help avoid unwanted pregnancy
Aim to give info about abortions; advocate that it is a very safe procedure
Would like for abortion to be an easier action for women to take if they do not wish to carry out with the birth of a child
Argue that there isn't access to legal, safe and timely abortions to women in Texas due to the HB2

Constitution and the HB2

Section 245 of Texas Health and Safety Code has been amended

Because many Abortion clinics are required to also be ASCs, many have been shut down

Requires that all abortion clinics must be ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs)
Allows for women to have the ability to have abortions, no matter for what reason
Makes it more difficult to carry out the procedure, however
Constitutional

Organization: TAL and "pro-life"

Works through federal, state, and local legislative, administrative and legal processes
Support House Bill (HB) 416, and many other House Bills hoping to prevent abortions
HB416: Would like for abortion facility workers to complete training on how to recognize citizens who are victims on sex trafficking

Wishes to assist these victims and keep them from being coerced into having an abortion

Committed to protecting the fundamental right to life of all innocent human beings
Oppose abortion, except in cases to preserve the mother's life

Info on the HB2 Law

14 days after taking abortion inducing drugs there must be a follow up appointment to doctor

Too many visits = less likely a woman is to want to get an abortion

Women must pay a visit to the doctor's office for each two doses of the abortion pill
Women not only have to make long trips, but a few in order to carry out an abortion
Abortions after 20 weeks post-fertilization are prohibited
Abortion doctors must have admitting priveleges at a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion clinic
Many women wishing to have an abortion sometimes have to drive 100+ to get an abortion
Many hospitals do not agree with abortion due to ties to religion

These hospitals are tied to religious causes, thus probably holding the same "pro-life" views as the Texas Alliance for Life organization.

Led to the closing of many abortion clinics that could not receive admittance from hospitals
