HISTORY OF INTERNET

WWW

nternet as it is conceived today, i.e. the World Wide Web (www), was introduced in 1991. Two years later, CERN opened the web for commercial use. The era in which this powerful communication tool was reserved for state, technological or academic spheres was left behind. From then on, the expansion of the Internet was explosive.

BUSINESS ADAPTATION

Ten years later, the number of users worldwide has reached 4.54 billion (approximately 60% of the world's population), of which 3.8 billion are active users of social networks. This is according to the We Are Social 2020 report. Thanks to them we contact our friends, meet new people regardless of their physical location, share information with people who share our interests and, in addition, they are free. These features explain why social platforms are so popular and are increasingly capturing our attention.

SOCIAL NETWORKS

This interactivity transformed software services. It was the era of the blogging boom and multimedia sharing. It was also the time of the birth of Social Networks. In fact, the first Social Network was born near the end of the 20th century. Specifically, it was in 1997 that sixDegrees.com appeared, which managed to accumulate close to one million users before its demise.

ARPANET

Arpanet was the first real network to run on packet switching technology (new at the time). On October 29, 1969, computers at Stanford and UCLA connected for the first time. In effect, they were the first hosts on what would one day become the Internet. The first message sent across the network was supposed to be “Login”, but reportedly, the link between the two colleges crashed on THE LETTER “G”.

ARPA

It was created by ARPA, the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network of the U.S. Department of Defense. The function of ARPA, born in 1958, was and continues to be to accompany the development of new technologies for military purposes.

COLD WAR

Another catalyst in the formation of the Internet was the heating up of the Cold War. The Soviet Union's launch of the Sputnik satellite spurred the U.S. Defense Department to consider ways information could still be disseminated even after a nuclear attack

E-COMMERCE
