Hello students!! Today we are going to review and practice integers. On the left side you can learn more about integers. On the right side you can practice working with integers. If you find you need some help, continue to the right for a review on the topic you are practicing.
Learning takes time and practice, so please use this time to practice.
Happy Learning! - Mrs. Biss
The Law of Trichotomy tells that for any two integers, they are either greater than, less than or equal to each other, so one of these must be true.
m and n are intergers
m > n or m < n or m = n
Use the number line to decide which integer is greater than or less than another.
Integers to the left of your number will be less than it.
Integers to the right of your number will be greater than it.
The addition by 0 property means that the sum of any integer and zero will be the integer.
n = any interger
n + 0 = n and 0 + n = n
A number line can be used to represent integers and where they are. Positive integers will be represented on the right hand side of the number line, while the negative integers will be represented on the left hand side.
We can represent integers using colored counters. One color will represent the positive integers and another color will represent the negative integers.
O O O O O O O = positive integers
O O O O O O O = negative intergers
The absolute value of an integer is its nonnegative.
For example:
|-3 | = 3
| 2 | = 2
| -55 | = 55
An integer is a whole number and it's opposite or negative
.
For example the whole number 3 has an opposite of -3. So that 3 + (-3 ) = 0 and -3 + 3 = 0.
or
n = any interger
n + (-n) = 0 and (-n) + n = 0

Using a Number Line
Using Colored Counters
Example problem: 4 + -5
Use colored counters to represent the integers.
O = positive O = negative
Put together the correct number of each counters.
O O O O
O O O O O
Decide which color has more and by how many.
O O O O
O O O O O <----this group has one more
Negative has one more this means:
4 + -5 = -1
