Content vs. Function
Language is composed of both content and function words, each playing a distinct role. Function words, like possessive adjectives, conjunctions, auxiliary verbs, articles, modal verbs, short prepositions, and pronouns, act as the grammatical glue that joins ideas together within sentences.
