If there is a real conflict of interests, and provided you don’t feel that your self-respect is in question, offer a workable compromise.

When there is an appropriate space, take your turn in the conversation. Share information about yourself and your interests by expanding on Yes/No answers. If there are few areas of interest in your life that are of interest to others.

If the other person asks a question back, smiles or volunteers some extra information they may want to continue to get to know you.
