UNIT 3(1945-1982)

Politics

During this time African-Canadians could now occupy political positions and contributed to the fight for the rights African Canadians.

This had a big impact as various other African Canadians tried to occupy other positions in companies and businesses.

Civil rights movement

The civil right movement originated in America but also had and effect in Canada too and it was a movement and African-Americans against the racism in America

It created the black power movement in Canada, which fought for equality and education.

A Nova Scotia businesswoman who was arrested because she was black but refused to sit in the colored section of the theater.

She decided to become a human rights activists and fight for her rights.

UNIT 1(1914-1929)

Underground railroad

Although Canada discriminated against the black people they still accepted them and helped them escape the slavery in America by promising safety for them.

They helped them by creating a path for them to escape.

world war One

African Canadians were not even trusted enough to join the army and help Canada.

They were later allowed to serve was a Construction battalion that fixed various roads and walls.

African Canadians were not really accepted yet and were very boldly discriminated against, even though slave trade had ended.

Black women were heavily discriminated against because they were part of two minorities.

They did not have the various rights that English and french Canadians because they were a minorities.

Harriet Tubman

She was considered the Moses of her people because she led the slaves through america to Canada.

UNIT 4(1982-PRESENT)

Immigration

After the immigration act a lot African Canadians have come to Canada as it as become a very accepting countries.

Pierre Trudeau

Created the civil rights movement that gave all minorities including African Canadians were granted the full rights of a Canadians

Black lives matter

This is a movement that as done a lot in helping African Canadians because it has helped bring to light the things that African Canadians have had to go through

Now African Canadian are treated just as equally as other Canadians now and they also have the same right too.

McKenzie King

He was the prime minister during this time and his platforms used for his elections were that he would allow various rights such as voting for minority groups including african Canadians.

Most of what he promised the african Canadians was never done but h did make the stepping stones for african Canadians to fight for their freedom by allowing them to have ranks in the Candian army.

They could now vote but still were not allowed to hold any position politically in Canada.

Although African-Canadians were still considered a minority, they were allowed to join the army and also contribute to the nation.

They were not properly compensated for their contributions to the war.
