Civics Final Evaluation

Women's Rights

Solution

Women should be given equal rights and equal opportunities. Equal pay should be a law and people across Canada and the world should be educated on what feminism actually is and what it means. Laws in the UN should make it illegal for a female to be married under a certain age. Rapists should also be dealt with more seriously especially in courts as women tend not to come out about their experiences for fear of being ridiculed in court and on media. Also, since we are such a privileged and developed country we should help other countries to resolve women's rights issues in other places around the world

Perspectives

Controversy
Anti-feminist ideas
Feminism = Man Hate

Many people often connect feminism with the idea of man hate, there are many reasons as to why people think this way

Also many men and other individuals alike have only ever seen feminists who are radicals and actually hate men, however, these people aren't but misandrists.

People believe that feminism is only the advocacy of women's rights but it actually means the belief that all gender should be treated equally and with equality. All genders should be given equal opportunities and be treated the same

Men only ever see feminists advocating for women's rights many pay no attention to the rights of men and the issues that they face in everyday society

Female education

According to a census taken in 2017 more women graduate from post secondary than men do

This means that overall women will have a higher education than men, this means they will have more well paid and stable jobs

Good jobs will mean that they will have a better overall lifestyle and standard of living than men

Women also statistically achieve higher marks than men in high school

Many people around the world are also to this day very traditional and as a result believe that women should only be the caretakers of the home and caregivers for the children and that is all that they were made to do
Pro-feminist ideas
Child Marriage

In 2018 alone, 10 million girls were married at or before the age of 15 in India! And, 26 million at or before the age of 18!

1 in 5 girls around the world are married before the age of 18, of which most marriages occur in regions of Africa

Girls in many countries around the world especially third world countries are married at 13 or even 12 years old

Violence against women

1 in 5 women will be raped in North America before she reaches the age of 18

Sex trafficking of women has become a business and is currently a billion dollar industry in the U.S

Girls picked out for this business are the most vulnerable girls possible

These girls are coming out of foster homes, are living in poverty, are homeless, been kicked out of their homes, or have some sort of mental illness like depression for example

From this group 70% are women of colour

Of which 66% will be more likely to be raped again

Statistics show that every 9 seconds a woman in the U.S is assaulted.

women are still to this date even despite the more socially aware world that we live in abused and sexually assaulted at very high rates

Women in the workforce

Women still face inequality in the work force and at the workplace

Women are discourage from speaking up in meetings at their offices; And when women do voice their opinions they are disregarded and mostly ignored in comparison to men

Very few women are able to make it top executive levels in their companies or into higher paying positions at their companies

Women are paid unfairly: they are paid less than their male counter parts for the same amount and length of work

Body shaming

Women try to loose weight when they since they look; however, women that are too skinny are also boddy shamed

Women fall into eating disorders too try to have the 'perfect" body

Body shaming regularly occurs amongst women more so than men

Political Spectrum

Liberal
Believe that women do deserve better rights but this issue isn't of much significance and doesn't need to be taken action on immediately. It is but a small issue, however, they also don't believe in traditional roles for women.
Radical/NDP
Believe that feminism is an important issue right now and needs action to be taken on immediately in all parts of the world to better the problem. That women should have separate laws passed for them to be legally equal to men
Conservative
The original conservative believes that women should stick to their traditional roles and stay home. They weren't made to work, they were only made to stay home and give birth to children. They also don't believe in abortion and are strictly pro life

Speakers position

That too many people especially when the issue at hand is the mistreatment of women people tend to back out or as the speaker said "fall asleep"
When it is time to move ahead and solve the issues ahead people become ignorant and the people who are actually working towards solving these issues leave behind the rest of society.

Gender inequality isn't an issue that we can solve individually it is one where we have to work together with others to solve

It is our duty to fight on the issues at hand and to carry everyone else with us when we move ahead.

We as privileged people have more of a responsibility to speak out for those who can't. To help the unfortunate and work with the more vulnerable people
That people don't speak out enough about these things.
People become very ignorant about issues in which if they act it will cost them something. Issues like feminism and any other large human rights issue has a cost attached to it to move forward and to make a change in general.
