Academic writing often requires adherence to specific formatting and capitalisation styles. These styles can range from maximal, where the first letter of every important word is capitalised, to minimal, where only the first word and any other word that would normally take a capital are capitalised.

CAPITALISATION STYLES

MINIMAL
Capitalise the first word,

And the first word after a colon.

MAXIMAL
The first letter of every important word should be capitalised.

The first word after a colon is always capitalised.

WORD COUNT

A limit of 10% above or below the stated word count is often acceptable, but always check this with your unit coordinator
