Goals for learning (Language and Math) and feeling like we belong! (EMMS - 6A)

Mathematics

Student Examples - I will get better marks on unit tests - I will be able to fix bugs in code - My marks will improve! - Now I can make games in Godot - I'm able to get my answers right on a test with long division - I become more confident answering Operations questions - I can code my own game without help from a teacher - I end up with more free time in Math class to work on something else or study

Student Goals - Be more comfortable studying my Math work - I will be more confident in creating coding scripts - My marks will improve in Math - I want to make better games using coding! - I want to get better at long division - I'm better at Operations questions - I want to be able to code a game - I want to be able to complete Math work faster

Feeling like we belong!

Goal (Teacher) When educators and students have a deep understanding of their own biases and how their lived experiences connect within the school community, then there will be an increase in motivation, engagement and well being. Examples of how we know we're achieving this (Teacher) Increase in student engagement and decrease in behaviour related challenges Affinity spaces that are representative of the student population beyond the classroom Students feel seen heard and represented in the learning environment How do we feel that we belong at school / feel that we don't belong at school?

Consistent multi-cultural/diverse portrayals in classes and daily structure; a safe, predictable space.

Museum of me activity? Cultural showcase using a medium of their choice. Personal Writer's Workshop activities tie in also.

Student Examples - I have a good friend group and I enjoy playing with them - I feel more welcome when it comes to joining clubs and making friends inside/outside of them - I can see my work improving artistically over the years - Having a place to be (Minecraft club) with my friends - I have a good friend group I'm comfortable with - I'm able to consistently attend choir

Student Goals - Having friends I'm comfortable with at school, and time to play with them - Having fun clubs that I can participate in with my friends - I really enjoy art-related projects - Recess time (both inside and out) makes me happy - Having trustworthy friends that treat me well - I love choir!

Language Arts

Goal (Teacher) Educators will increase their knowledge in reading instruction so that students and especially those who have been historically and traditionally marginalized, will have the direct support they need to improve their achievement in reading and writing. Examples of how we know we're achieving this (Teacher) Students increase in self confidence as a direct result of increase reading ability Students increase in reading comprehension at and towards grade level Students write cohesive structured sentences and paragraphs Students enjoy reading culturally relevant text

Student Examples - Get better scores in spelling quizzes - I will be able to confidently use more advanced words - I will be able to write confidently about any subject - If I'm able to speak more fluently with my peers, I know I've gotten better - I will become smarter by being able to understand more of what other people are saying - I will be able to make better stories during our free writing period!

Student Goals - Get better at spelling - Be more interested in reading - Learn how to become a better paragraph writer - I will be able to speak confidently in front of the class - I want to know more words and their meanings - I want to be better at Writer's Workshop
