In this family narrative, traditional roles were redefined by necessity rather than by cultural or gender norms. After the father left, the mother took on the responsibility of managing the household entirely, balancing work at a cheese factory with the demands of raising children.

Roles in our family

\Eventually my parents split up and the roles differed a bit. We lived with our mom, so she was always busy with work, her kids, the house, etc, all of the roles officially fell to her. Before, our dad just worked, came home and did nothing, we the kids just made life harder on both of them and out mother was the linchpin that kept the family together, for as long as she did.
For instance both my parents worked, and as nice as it would've been for my father to help more around the house he didn't so that fell to mostly my mother, and eventually that just became an expectation. So my mother pretty much had TWO full time jobs, her work at the cheese factory and us, her children.
In my family (to my knowledge) specific roles were never really talked about we all just did our own thing and we all silently understood this. More info on next sub topic!

To my understanding, based on the assignments, I'm supposed to talk about my how my family did things (past tense)???? So I suppose that's what I'll do.

More ROLES in the family #2

SO the conclusion I'm trying to make is that the family roles were never determined by gender, religion, or culture it was just a regular modern family structure (I assume).
After my dad left my mom paid all the bills, took on to soccer practice, dropped us off at school, made dinner, etc, she did everything, she kept us in touch with distant family.

Our Ethnicity/family background:

Because of my french cultural background my parents/mostly mother decided to place me and my brother into a french catholic school where I stayed until grade 8.
I come from a long line of french and Irish people, at some point long ago, descendents of my family immigrated (moved/lived) in canada.
