Magna Charta Libertatum

this document limited the sovereign's powers and granted more freedom to nobles, the church and cities

but it was granted only to free men

for this reason the majority of the population remained outside the oact

king John repeatedly violated the clauses in the Magna Carta of 1215

defining and limiting the scope and the king's authority

king's John father, Harry II introduced judical reforms, established the autority of the royal court and laid solid foundation for the future justice system in England

two main themes addressed by the Magna Carta

the judicial system

the feudal law

the clauses were trying to right the wrings done by king John

the king was to immediately return all hostages, remove all foreign knights and mercenaries from England, and return freedom to all who had been unjisty deprived of them

king John just took advantage of his right and began to oppres and stress to the limits the legit crown right

so the clauses that we can find in 1215 Magna Carta are directly connected to this overall process

or Great Charter was established in 1215 by John Lackland

only three of the clauses of the Magna Carta that were entered in the register of statutes in 1297 are still valid today

one these states that London and all other cities, villages , tows and ports will enjoy their ancient freedom and customs

the barons used Magna Carta to regulate the boundaries of the forest, investigate its officials and reforn forest law

these clauses formed the basis of the separate Forest Charter in 1217

when John refused to recognize the papal candidate Stephen Langton in 1208 the Pope Innocent III forbade priests to celebrated religious prectices

John seized the land and revenues of the Church, but in 1209 the Pope excommunicated him

in 1212 John was forced to make peace with the Church and accept Langton as archbishopand

john asked Innocent III to resin the Magna Carta and on August 24 1215 the Pope declared Magna Carta null

implicitly allowed the seizure of property for the payment of debs

established orinciples for debt collection and corrected two minor abuses

window and minors had to be protected against excessive claims for reimbursement

if the heir of a debt to a Jew was a minor the debt could not accrue interest
