National Policy

The National Policy, devised by Sir John A. Macdonald, aimed to strengthen Canada's economic and territorial integrity through three primary objectives. The first goal was to encourage settlement in the western regions, where the newly established settlers would cultivate crops for export and purchase manufactured goods from industries based in Central Canada.
