Holi is a vibrant festival originating from India, marking the victory of good over evil. Rooted in the legend of Prahlad and Holika, it celebrates how Prahlad survived a fire meant to kill him, while Holika, who was supposed to be immune, perished.

What do the colors mean?

each color has a meaning; red means love and fertility so plants and gardening and stuff like that green means new begginings, blue represents krishna, and yellow represents cures and medicine, (a.k.a turmeric).

the colors are made of cornstarch

What is the history behind how it started?

So they tricked Prahlad but then when they went in the fire Prahlad grabed the blanket and saved himself before he burned up so then Holika burned up and so holi is celebrated to celebrate the victory of good. fun fact is that on the first day of holi people make fire and burn wood up.
The plan of the king and holika was to take holika's blanket and wrap in around her, but then trick Prahlad to going in the fire so he would burn up but Holika would stay safe.
(just so you know, Holika had a blanket which made her immune to fire meaning she wouldnt burn in the fire) So the king asked his sister, Holika, to trick Prahlad in going in a fire with Holika.
the story: there was a prince called Prahlad. He was a nice guy but his dad who was the king wanted everyone to pujah (worship) him but his son Prahlad didnt listen to him. The king wanted then to kill Prahlad .

yes when it started it was actully a festival of growing plants and farming

its called holi because of a long story that included a person called holika and holi is named after her.
