Decision making involves a structured process to identify and solve problems effectively. The process begins with defining the problem or opportunity by acknowledging the gap between the current state and the desired state.

Characteristics of Problems
-You must be aware of the problem. Be sure to identify the actual problem rather than a symptom of the problem.
-You must be under pressure to act. A true problem puts pressure on the manager to take action.
-You must have the authority or resources to act.
-Objectives state what the individual, group, or organization intends to accomplish.
-Objectives can address a problem of long or short standing, or they can address opportunities in the marketplace.
Criteria
Criteria are the standards that must be met to accomplish the objective.
-You need to know between must and want
-Must criteria have to be met in order to achieve the objectives.
-Want criteria are desirable but not absolutely necessary.
Select the Most Feasible Alternative
Choose the best alternative to solve the problems
Generating and evaluating alternatives at the same time often leads to satisficing and and don’t waste time on poorly developed alternatives
Think forward and try to predict possible for outcome. By using step 3 of the decision making process to each alternatives that want to use.
