Following the events of September 11, 2001, significant changes were enacted to enhance security in the United States. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created to oversee airport and baggage screening, while measures such as reinforced cockpit doors and the expansion of the Federal Air Marshal Service were implemented.
In the immediate aftermath of the
attacks, North American airspace
was closed to civilian traffic for two
days, but flights slowly resumed
after
Terrorists hijacked four airplanes in
a attempt to have suicide attackers.
Two were flown into the twin
towers, one was flown into the
pentagon and the last one was
taken back and crashed on some
farmland in Pennsylvania
Airports after the attacks
requiring screening conducted by
federal officials, 100 percent
checked baggage screening,
expansion of the Federal Air
Marshal Service and reinforced
cockpit doors.
TSA was established by the
Aviation and Transportation
Security Act passed by the 107th
Congress and signed into law by
President George W. Bush on
November 19, 2001
