Foundations of government

john locke said that government is to support and serve the people

he alsosaid that any government that abuses its power, should not be obeyed

we got natural rights

rights that we were born with that no one could take away

once the monarchs had limitied power, a representative government came after a while

monarchs used to rule over the english people. Leaving them with no authority.

some monarchs used their power wisly, some abused it

few people allowed to vote

people were searching for religious freedom.

heritage: te traditions passed down to us from generation to generation.

legislator: a group of people chose to make laws

branches of government formed, and we formed and actual system.

citizens participated in government

the bill of rights was passesd

limited the manarch power even more, ex. the king and queen could not limit our freedom of speech.

english nobles began to challege the monarch's power

we began to get rights

citizenship in america is different than that of other places.

greater freedom of religion

a man published an article about the government abusing their power. the governer put him in jail, there was a trial held for him and he was found not guilty.

his case inspired the colonists.

that was the start of freedom of speech

only rich men who owned land could vote. Africans were consideredproperty not people.

charter: a document giving permission to create a government.
