FACTORS AFFECTING INTELLIGIBILITY

Familiarity and exposure affect a person´s ability to understand a particular type of accent

The person speaks too quickly.

Lack of Confidence.

if a learner’s speechis full of self corrections hesitations and grammatical restructurings the listeners will tend to find what he or she say difficult to follow.

INTELLIGIBILITY

the more words a listener is able to identify accurately when said by a particular speaker, the more intelligible is

intelligibility is being understood by a listener at a given time in a given situation so it´s the same as understandability, at speaker is.

the age : younger people have more possibilities in learning a new language

the native language : rhythm and intonation, the more differences there are, the more difficulties the learner will have in the pronouncing english.

Pronuntation Goals : goal should always be native like pronunciation. in setting goals for our learners we must consider the effect of mispronunciation on the listener and the degree of tolerance listeners will have for this.
