trench warfare first started in world war one, the trench was a 10 to 12 foot deep trench hence its name, soldiers would line the edges with sandbags to protect them from shrapnel, there was different types of trenches, front-line trench, support trench, communication trench and the reserve trench. there was also bunkers to hold ammunitions and other things. soldiers had to spend upwards of 4 years living in the trenches.

the Halifax explosion was a disaster that occurred in 1917 when a French cargo ship the SS Mont blanc carrying high explosives crashed into the SS Imo causing a massive explosion devastating the city and killing over 1.5 thousand people and a estimated 9000 people injured.

Arthur Currie

he is considered among the most capable commanders of the western front, and one of the finest commanders in the Canadian military. he is also known for allegedly stealing $10,000 of regimental funds, but returned the money later.

John McCrae

John McCrae was the author of the war memorial poem written in the middle of battle called Flanders field, and then he published it. Soon his poem became popular and is still the same to this day.

Billy Bishop is known for being the best flying-ace in Canadas history, by the end of the first world war he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and credited with destroying 72 enemy aircraft.
