In digital communication, online jargon and text message shorthand have become prevalent, particularly in instant messaging, emails, and social media. These abbreviations, often referred to as chat acronyms, simplify and expedite communication.

Input/output or I/O-the term can also be used as part of an action; to "perform I/O" is to perform an input or output operation.
