Responsibilities as an Educator
Provide opportunities to practice and apply new learning through regular and varied assessment and provide specific feedback
Work with colleagues (ESL/ELD teachers, mainstream subject teachers, teacher-librarians, special education teachers, and guidance) to support and help ELL students integrate successfully into the academic and social life of the School
This could be done by encouraging the student to join clubs/teams and encouraging group work in class
As a science teacher ensure there are word walls, and vocabulary sheets as many terms in science are considered to be a new language of its own
Develop appropriate methods for assessing and evaluating student learning that would be fair for all students considering their gaps in the language
Create learning experiences that celebrate diversity
Create a welcoming and inclusive school environment
